Who We Are
Hospice of Coconino County has a deeply rooted history in compassionate care, beginning with Jerene Maierle, a social worker who recognized the need for hospice services in the 1970s and 80s. At that time, hospice care was only available through volunteers, and Medicare had not yet recognized it as a benefit. Jerene played a pivotal role in the hospice movement, helping make hospice care a Medicare benefit and providing free care to many families. In 1994, she founded Hospice of Arizona from her kitchen, with her daughter Connie by her side. Connie became the first hospice worker to bring hospice care to care homes, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey.
In 1996, Cindi Lamb, Jerene’s other daughter, joined the team, and together, they grew Hospice of Arizona into the 10th largest hospice in the world, caring for over 1,000 patients. Today, Cindi, with 28 years of hospice experience, owns and operates Hospice of Coconino County, continuing the legacy of exceptional care and compassion. Serving Maricopa County, the 4th largest county in the United States, Hospice of Coconino County remains committed to providing the highest quality of care, just as the Maierle family has done for decades.
